Provider capabilities vary by agreement. Compass services are scoped to your engagement. vCISO advisory is an add-on. Incident Response requires a separate retainer-based engagement, with Apex clients receiving 50% off standard hourly rates. Detection and containment within your selected security tier remain subject to that service’s scope.

What Compass Delivers to Banks & Financial Institutions

Compass runs the technology and produces the evidence at the same time. Both halves matter, and the second half is the one most providers treat as a favor rather than a deliverable.

Managed IT That Holds Up Under Review

Daily operations, service desk, patch and vulnerability management, asset inventory, backup verification, change control, and access reviews, delivered under Managed IT. Institutions with an internal IT officer usually start with Co-Managed IT, which keeps your person in control of the relationship while Compass carries coverage, tooling, and after-hours load. Institutions without internal IT depth move to Fully Managed IT. Aging infrastructure, end-of-support systems, and branch network refreshes fall under IT Modernization.

Security Matched to a Bank's Risk Profile

Detection and response run through Cybersecurity & Advisory and the Apex Security Platform. Core Defense provides 24x7 monitoring with analyst-validated detection and a 15-minute response target. Complete Security adds dedicated analysts, human-led investigation and threat hunting, a 10-minute acknowledgment target, containment and remediation, root-cause findings, and executive reporting. Detection and containment follow the selected service scope; a separate Incident Response engagement requires a retainer.

Most FDIC-supervised institutions sit at Complete Security because examiners ask what was investigated and who decided, not how many alerts fired.

Advisory That Speaks to Your Board and Your Examiner

Available as an add-on, vCISO & Security Advisory supplies the security leadership function: risk assessment, information security program ownership, policy set, board reporting, and examination support. Compliance & Risk Management maintains the control mapping and evidence, including NIST Cybersecurity Framework alignment, which is one of the resources the FFIEC pointed institutions toward when it retired the Cybersecurity Assessment Tool.

Stronger Banking Operations

Turn IT Risk Into Confident Action

Strengthen your institution’s oversight, security, and resilience with practical support across six essential areas.

Understand, Build, Operate, Respond, and Strengthen form a continuous cycle. 01 // UNDERSTAND We design + deploy the environment; security is engineered in from day 0. 02 // BUILD We run and support it daily, so we know what normal looks like. 03 // OPERATE We watch it 24x7, with AI triage surfacing the activity worth review. 04 // RESPOND We validate, contain + remediate with analysts who know your systems. 05 // STRENGTHEN Every incident and review feeds back into a stronger, secured baseline.

Closed-loop delivery

Why the Closed Loop Makes You More Secure

Compass clients get more secure with every service they consolidate.

Here is the uncomfortable truth about most security incidents. The detection was fine. The response died in a handoff.

Compass eliminates the seam by design. Because Compass controls and manages the systems it defends, detection, containment, and remediation happen inside one team, in one motion. This is also why Compass clients get more secure with every service they consolidate. Security-only coverage means Compass can see and stop threats. Security plus managed IT means Compass also patches, hardens, and permanently fixes what the investigation finds. Add cloud and infrastructure, and the loop closes around your entire attack surface.

SEC Regulation S-P: What Examiners Ask to See

The SEC named Regulation S-P compliance a 2026 examination priority. Examiners are now reviewing smaller broker-dealers and investment advisers with a specific document request list. Here is what they will ask for and what most small firms have not built.

FAQs

Questions Banks Ask About Managed IT and Compliance

Clear answers about technology oversight, examination readiness, cybersecurity, and the responsibilities your bank retains when working with a managed service provider.

Will Our FDIC and State Examiners Accept an MSP That Is Not a Large Core Banking Provider?

A provider’s size or core-processing role does not, by itself, determine whether an outsourcing arrangement is appropriate. Examiners assess the bank’s risk management and the provider’s ability to support the activity. The interagency third-party risk management guidance addresses planning, due diligence, contract negotiation, ongoing monitoring, and termination. Compass’s managed IT and cybersecurity services for financial institutions can support a documented engagement with defined responsibilities and reporting. The bank remains accountable for evaluating and overseeing the relationship.

Are Compass Services Subject to Examination Under the Bank Service Company Act?

Services covered by the Bank Service Company Act can be subject to examination regardless of whether they are performed on the bank’s premises or by an outside provider. 12 U.S.C. § 1867(c) establishes that authority for covered services performed for supervised institutions. Applicability depends on the actual services and relationship. The engagement should address examiner cooperation, access to relevant records, and appropriate audit provisions. Compass’s Compliance & Risk Management practice can help connect service documentation with the bank’s oversight needs.

Do We Have to Notify the FDIC When We Sign With Compass?

If the relationship involves services covered by the Bank Service Company Act, the bank must notify its applicable federal banking agency or agencies. Section 1867(c)(2) establishes a deadline of 30 days after the contract is made or service performance begins, whichever occurs first. The requirement depends on the service scope and the bank’s supervisory arrangements. As part of managed IT onboarding, service descriptions and responsibility boundaries should be documented so the bank can determine and complete the appropriate filing.

What Evidence Can Compass Help Provide for Our IT Examination?

Depending on the engagement, examination support can include risk assessments, system inventories, vulnerability and patch reports, access records, backup testing results, incident documentation, monitoring reports, and evidence of completed remediation. Policies and governance materials can be addressed through vCISO & Security Advisory and Compliance & Risk Management. The scope should identify which records Compass maintains, which remain with the bank or other providers, and how frequently each is updated. This creates a usable evidence record before examination requests arrive.

How Do You Support the FDIC InTREx Examination?

Compass can help organize technical and governance evidence around the bank’s examination requests and the FDIC’s Information Technology Risk Examination program. Support may include reviewing the IT Profile, mapping requested evidence to existing records, coordinating technical responses, and tracking remediation. Compliance & Risk Management can help establish an evidence index, responsible owners, and a preparation schedule. Deliverables should reflect the bank’s current examination scope and request list rather than assume every institution receives identical procedures.

What Should We Use Now That the FFIEC Cybersecurity Assessment Tool Has Been Retired?

The FFIEC sunset the Cybersecurity Assessment Tool on August 31, 2025. Its sunset statement points institutions toward other government and industry resources rather than prescribing one universal replacement. The NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 is one option for organizing cybersecurity risks, outcomes, and improvement priorities. Compass can help assess the bank against its selected framework and maintain a remediation roadmap through security advisory services. The bank should document why the approach fits its risks and operating complexity.

How Do You Support Computer-Security Incident Notification Requirements?

The bank’s regulatory notification duty and the provider’s notification duty have different triggers. Under the FDIC’s computer-security incident notification rule, an FDIC-supervised bank must notify the FDIC as soon as possible and no later than 36 hours after determining that a qualifying notification incident occurred.

A covered service provider must notify an affected bank-designated contact as soon as possible after determining that an incident has materially disrupted or degraded, or is reasonably likely to materially disrupt or degrade, covered services for four or more hours. That is a disruption threshold, not permission to wait four hours.

The incident response plan should document contacts, escalation triggers, available facts, and decision ownership. The bank retains responsibility for its regulatory determination and notification.

Can We Keep Our Current Core Provider and Still Work With Compass?

Yes. A bank can retain its core processor while engaging Compass for defined IT, cybersecurity, and advisory responsibilities. A co-managed IT arrangement can cover selected services such as endpoint management, service desk support, monitoring, and coordination with internal staff. The engagement should clearly identify system access, integration dependencies, incident responsibilities, and ownership across providers. This allows the bank to evaluate a bounded scope before expanding the relationship, while continuing oversight of both providers.

Does Moving Work Away From a Single Large Provider Help or Hurt Us With Examiners?

Neither structure is automatically better. Concentrating services with one provider creates dependencies; dividing services introduces coordination and oversight requirements. The interagency guidance calls for risk management appropriate to the activity and relationship. The bank should evaluate resilience, access to information, subcontractors, continuity, and exit options alongside cost and service quality. Compass can help define operational responsibilities through its connected delivery model, while the bank determines which arrangement best supports its risk appetite.

Where Is Your Security Operations Team Located, and Does Offshore Support Create an Examination Issue?

Compass’s delivery model includes United States and Philippine-based team members supporting around-the-clock operations. For a banking engagement, due diligence should establish which functions are performed in each location, where information is stored and processed, and what access controls apply.

The interagency third-party guidance identifies additional considerations for foreign-based arrangements, including legal, country, information-security, and oversight risks. Offshore support is not automatically acceptable or unacceptable. The bank must assess its specific arrangement, applicable restrictions, and controls, with service-location disclosures documented before approval.

What Documentation Can Compass Provide for Our Third-Party Risk Management File?

The due diligence process should establish the available corporate, financial, insurance, security, business-continuity, subcontractor, and service-performance documentation relevant to the engagement. Independent assurance reports should be evaluated for their actual scope and availability rather than assumed to cover every service. The Federal Reserve’s community-bank third-party risk management guide offers practical considerations for this work. Compass’s compliance support can help organize requests and reporting responsibilities, including how updates, exceptions, and remediation will be tracked.

Do You Support GLBA and Appendix B to Part 364 Obligations?

Compass can support the technical and governance work associated with applicable bank information-security requirements. For FDIC-supervised institutions subject to Appendix B to Part 364, these include a written information-security program, risk assessment, appropriate controls, service-provider oversight, program adjustments, and reporting to the board or an appropriate committee at least annually. vCISO & Security Advisory can help develop and maintain those elements within scope. The bank’s board and management retain their approval and oversight responsibilities.

How Do You Handle Findings From an Examination or Independent Audit?

Compass can help translate findings into a remediation plan with specific actions, owners, target dates, dependencies, and supporting evidence. Progress reporting should distinguish completed technical work from findings that still require validation or formal closure. Through Closed-Loop Delivery, lessons from remediation feed into documentation, control improvements, and account intelligence. This helps the bank demonstrate what changed and maintain the evidence needed for subsequent review, while closure decisions remain with the appropriate bank, audit, or supervisory authority.

Can You Support Offices in More Than One State?

Yes. Compass’s regional service footprint supports organizations operating across multiple locations. A banking engagement can establish common endpoint and identity standards, consistent monitoring, documented escalation paths, and coordinated support across branches. On-site availability and response commitments should be confirmed for each location. Compliance & Risk Management can also help organize applicable requirements within scope, while the bank remains responsible for identifying its federal and state supervisory obligations.

What Does the First 90 Days Look Like?

The onboarding plan depends on the bank’s environment, selected services, existing providers, and examination schedule. An illustrative sequence starts with discovery, risk assessment, documentation, and a prioritized gap list. It then moves into agreed monitoring deployments, access controls, backup verification, and escalation procedures, followed by reporting and evidence preparation.

Compass Command Center connects this work through account intelligence and Closed-Loop Delivery: Understand, Build, Operate, Respond, and Strengthen. Milestones should identify when each capability becomes active and who owns coverage during the transition; completing every deliverable within 90 days depends on scope and readiness.

How Is This Different From What Our Core Processor Bundles Into Its Contract?

The distinction depends on the services your core processor actually provides. Its contract may cover the core platform and additional IT or security functions, while other responsibilities remain with the bank. The first step is to map ownership across endpoints, identity, email, branch networks, local applications, monitoring, and incident response. Compass’s financial-services offering can address agreed gaps through managed IT, cybersecurity, and advisory support. A documented responsibility matrix helps the bank avoid duplicated work and unassigned responsibilities across providers.

Bank On Better IT.

Bring Compass into the evaluation as a documented option. The assessment stands on its own; the due diligence package is yours to keep, and the phased path gives your committee something to approve rather than something to fear.
